# Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (a $50 farmers’ market card each season for Californians 60 and older): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next

*The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program gives Californians 60 and older with household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level one $50 card per season for fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey at authorized farmers’ markets. You sign up in person with your county Area Agency on Aging, first come, first served. The 2026 card works from 15 June through 30 November 2026.*

## What Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is, in one paragraph

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is a federal program that California runs through the Department of Food and Agriculture. An eligible senior gets a Farmers’ Market Card to buy fresh, unprocessed, locally grown fruits, vegetables, cut herbs and honey from authorized farmers. Sign-up is in person through the county Area Agency on Aging each season, and the cards are given first come, first served. Not every farmer at a market is authorized; authorized stalls show a “WIC and Senior Benefits Welcome” sign.

  "label": "one SFMNP Farmers’ Market Card per eligible senior per year, usable 15 June to 30 November 2026 (CDFA, rule:benefit_50)"
}
```
## Who may qualify
Three things decide it: **age**, **residence** and **household income**.
**Age and residence**: a California resident 60 or older (rule:age_60_ca).
**Income**: household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level (rule:income_185). The applicant self-certifies it (rule:self_certify).
| Household size | Yearly | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $29,526 | $2,461 |
| 2 | $40,034 | $3,337 |
| 3 | $50,542 | $4,212 |
| each additional | +$10,508 | +$876 |
That is CDFA’s 2026 table, effective 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 (rule:income_185_table).
**Once a season**: one benefit per person per season (rule:once_per_season), and only while the county’s cards last (rule:first_come).
## What the model on this page can do for you
This article is also the context of a model you can text or chat with. The buttons under the title open Messages with a note already written, or a chat on this page. The model has read this exact page: the rules above with their source ids, the procedure below, and the other programs the same facts open. It asks for one or two facts at a time, starting with date of birth and county, then household size and income, tells you which rules you pass and which it cannot decide, names the programs you may also qualify for, and gives the exact next step. It has no tools: it cannot apply for you, and it says so. Every message is kept on this build's Ledger.
A screening here is a screening, not a decision. The county Area Agency on Aging decides.
## How to apply, and what happens after
Apply in person through the Area Agency on Aging for your county (rule:apply_in_person, rule:apply_aaa); CDFA publishes the [2026 AAA contact list](https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/SeniorFarmersMrktNutritionPrgm/docs/2026_AAA_Contact_List.pdf). You sign a self-certification of age and income (rule:self_certify).
| Stage | What happens | Deadline | What loses people the benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen | Age 60+, California, income at or below 185% | Minutes | Assuming Social Security income disqualifies |
| Sign up | In person at the county AAA; self-certification | Each season, first come, first served (rule:first_come) | Arriving after the cards run out |
| Shop | $50 card at authorized farmers (rule:benefit_50) | 15 June to 30 November 2026 (rule:season_2026) | An unspent balance on 30 November |
| Lost card | Report to the local provider or CDFA (rule:lost_card) | When it happens | Not reporting it |
| Appeal | Eligibility decisions go to the county AAA (rule:appeal); lack of funds cannot be appealed (rule:no_appeal_funds) | No deadline stated | Appealing the wrong kind of denial |
## The same facts open other programs
The facts this program asks for, date of birth, county and household income, are the facts that open:
- **Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) (B007)**: CDFA links CSFP; both start at 60 and CSFP agencies hand out SFMNP information. [[california-csfp]]
- **Older Americans Act meals (Meals on Wheels / congregate) (B063)**: The same Area Agency on Aging runs senior meals. [[california-older-americans-act-meals]]
- **CalFresh (SNAP) (B001)**: CalFresh pays for food all year; household size and income are the same facts. [[california-calfresh]]
- **Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) + CA Market Match (B071)**: The same authorized farmers accept WIC farmers’ market benefits; CalFresh shoppers get Market Match. [[california-wic-fmnp-market-match]]
Those connections are read from [[california-benefits-graph|the California benefits graph]], the object that holds all 80 programs, the life events that trigger them and the facts they share.
## How this page works
This page is one JSON object. The page, the Markdown and the machine copy at [/a/california-senior-farmers-market-nutrition.json](https://miscsubjects.com/a/california-senior-farmers-market-nutrition.json) are three views of it. Its `facts` carry the article's identity and jurisdiction, the procedure with its stages, every rule with its source id and verification status, the fields a screening asks for with their canonical fact names, the ontology edges into the benefits graph, the declared actions, the model's instructions, and the permissions the model has (none). The model's context is served separately at [/a/california-senior-farmers-market-nutrition/context](https://miscsubjects.com/a/california-senior-farmers-market-nutrition/context): the same object, projected for a model, so there is one source of truth for the reader and the machine.
What is saved: a thread per phone number that texts, holding which articles it asked about, how many messages, and the facts it stated, so a person who comes back continues rather than restarts. The same phone number is treated as the same thread; a browser is never shown another phone's thread, and signing in is required before anything private crosses from text to screen. Every message, in either direction, is a row on this build's Ledger.
Figures carry their status in `facts.rules[].status`. The $50 card, the 2026 season dates, the 185% table and the appeal rules were fetched and verified on 9 October 2026. The CDFA brochure prints a benefit window of 1 May to 30 November; the CDFA program page states 15 June to 30 November 2026 for this season, and this article uses the program page. No appeal deadline and no in-season reporting duty is stated on the pages fetched; both are UNKNOWN.
Use only the rules in this article's facts.rules, naming the rule id and its source id beside every figure. The 2026 card is $50 and usable 15 June to 30 November 2026. Sign-up is in person at the county Area Agency on Aging, first come, first served. A denial for lack of funds cannot be appealed. Report results as: potentially eligible, potentially ineligible, insufficient information, or requires the county Area Agency on Aging determination; always say the county Area Agency on Aging decides. Ask for at most two facts at a time, starting with date of birth and county, then household size and annual income; restate each as a canonical fact line (for example person.identity.date_of_birth = 1958-04-02). Use facts.ontology.related_programs to name other programs the same facts open, and facts.procedure.stages to give the exact next step with its deadline. The rules to use are: rule:age_60_ca, rule:income_185, rule:income_185_table, rule:self_certify, rule:federal_definition, rule:once_per_season, rule:benefit_50, rule:foods, rule:season_2026, rule:card_use, rule:apply_in_person, rule:apply_aaa, rule:first_come, rule:renewal_each_season, rule:reporting, rule:lost_card, rule:appeal, rule:no_appeal_funds, rule:where_appeal, rule:contact, rule:balance_phone, rule:false_statement.
