# Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) + CA Market Match (farmers’ market produce money for WIC families and CalFresh shoppers in California): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next

*WIC families in California can get $30 of farmers’ market checks a season and can use the California WIC Card at authorized farmers’ markets. CalFresh shoppers get Market Match: CalFresh dollars spent at a participating market are matched dollar for dollar on fruits and vegetables, usually up to $15. FMNP checks come from the WIC office; Market Match is given at the market’s information booth.*

## What WIC FMNP and Market Match is, in one paragraph

Two programs pay for produce at California farmers’ markets. The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is a federal program for WIC participants: the WIC office gives a booklet of checks for authorized farmers, on top of regular WIC benefits, and from the 2025 season the California WIC Card itself works at authorized markets through a QR code. Market Match is California’s incentive for CalFresh shoppers, run by the Ecology Center with community partners: CalFresh dollars spent at a participating market are matched for fruits and vegetables. Market Match needs no application.

  "value": "$30 a season; up to $15 matched",
  "label": "WIC FMNP: three $10 checks per household, 1 May to 30 November (CDPH, rule:fmnp_ca_30). Market Match: most markets match CalFresh up to $15 (Ecology Center, rule:mm_cap_15)"
}
```
## Who may qualify
**WIC FMNP**: a person currently on WIC or on the WIC waiting list, except infants 4 months old or younger (rule:fmnp_who). The state may limit it to certain areas or priority groups (rule:fmnp_state_limits).
**Market Match**: anyone paying with CalFresh at a participating farmers’ market or farm-direct site (rule:mm_who).
| Program | Who | What | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| WIC FMNP | WIC participants | Three $10 checks, $30 a season (rule:fmnp_ca_30) | 1 May to 30 November (rule:fmnp_season) |
| WIC Card at markets | WIC participants | The monthly Fruits and Vegetables Benefit, by QR code (rule:wic_card_qr) | Year-round, at authorized farmers |
| Market Match | CalFresh shoppers | Dollar-for-dollar match, usually up to $15 (rule:mm_dollar, rule:mm_cap_15); 50% off at farm stands (rule:mm_farm_stand) | Market days |
## What the model on this page can do for you
This article is also the context of a model you can text or chat with. The buttons under the title open Messages with a note already written, or a chat on this page. The model has read this exact page: the rules above with their source ids, the procedure below, and the other programs the same facts open. It asks for one or two facts at a time, starting with whether you are on WIC and whether you have CalFresh, tells you which rules you pass and which it cannot decide, names the programs you may also qualify for, and gives the exact next step. It has no tools: it cannot apply for you, and it says so. Every message is kept on this build's Ledger.
A screening here is a screening, not a decision. The WIC office or the market decides.
## How to apply, and what happens after
**FMNP checks** come from the local WIC office ([MyFamily.WIC.ca.gov](https://myfamily.wic.ca.gov/Home/FarmersMarkets)). **Market Match**: go to the market’s information booth, swipe the CalFresh EBT card for the amount you choose, and receive tokens plus the match (rule:mm_booth); find a site with the [Farmers’ Market Finder](https://ecologycenter.org/fmfinder/).
| Stage | What happens | Deadline | What loses people the benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen | On WIC? Have CalFresh? | Minutes | Not knowing Market Match exists |
| Get | FMNP checks at the WIC office; Market Match tokens at the booth | FMNP during the season | Not asking |
| Spend | Authorized farmers; tokens on fruits, vegetables, herbs and plant starts (rule:mm_spend) | FMNP by 30 November | Checks expiring |
| Appeal | FMNP disqualification or suspension can be appealed (rule:fmnp_appeal) | Not stated | UNKNOWN |
## The same facts open other programs
The facts these programs ask for, WIC status and CalFresh status, are the facts that open:
- **WIC (Women, Infants & Children) (B003)**: FMNP is only for WIC participants; the WIC Card’s Fruits and Vegetables Benefit also works at authorized markets. [[california-wic]]
- **CalFresh (SNAP) (B001)**: Market Match matches CalFresh dollars spent at participating markets. [[california-calfresh]]
- **Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (B008)**: The same CDPH-authorized farmers take the $50 senior farmers’ market card. [[california-senior-farmers-market-nutrition]]
Those connections are read from [[california-benefits-graph|the California benefits graph]], the object that holds all 80 programs, the life events that trigger them and the facts they share.
## How this page works
This page is one JSON object. The page, the Markdown and the machine copy at [/a/california-wic-fmnp-market-match.json](https://miscsubjects.com/a/california-wic-fmnp-market-match.json) are three views of it. Its `facts` carry the article's identity and jurisdiction, the procedure with its stages, every rule with its source id and verification status, the fields a screening asks for with their canonical fact names, the ontology edges into the benefits graph, the declared actions, the model's instructions, and the permissions the model has (none). The model's context is served separately at [/a/california-wic-fmnp-market-match/context](https://miscsubjects.com/a/california-wic-fmnp-market-match/context): the same object, projected for a model, so there is one source of truth for the reader and the machine.
What is saved: a thread per phone number that texts, holding which articles it asked about, how many messages, and the facts it stated, so a person who comes back continues rather than restarts. The same phone number is treated as the same thread; a browser is never shown another phone's thread, and signing in is required before anything private crosses from text to screen. Every message, in either direction, is a row on this build's Ledger.
Figures carry their status in `facts.rules[].status`. The $30 FMNP booklet, the May to November season, the federal $10 to $30 range, the WIC Card at markets, and Market Match’s dollar-for-dollar match up to a usual $15 were fetched and verified on 9 October 2026. Market Match facts come from the Ecology Center, the nonprofit that runs it; no state agency page fetched states them. The FMNP appeal deadline and any renewal or reporting rule are UNKNOWN.
Use only the rules in this article's facts.rules, naming the rule id and its source id beside every figure. FMNP is only for WIC participants (and the WIC waiting list); California issues $30 in three $10 checks for 1 May to 30 November. Market Match needs no application: CalFresh is matched dollar for dollar at the booth, usually up to $15. Report results as: potentially eligible, potentially ineligible, insufficient information, or requires the local WIC agency (FMNP) or the market (Market Match) determination; always say the local WIC agency (FMNP) or the market (Market Match) decides. Ask for at most two facts at a time, starting with whether the person is on WIC and whether they have CalFresh; restate each as a canonical fact line (for example person.identity.date_of_birth = 1958-04-02). Use facts.ontology.related_programs to name other programs the same facts open, and facts.procedure.stages to give the exact next step with its deadline. The rules to use are: rule:fmnp_who, rule:fmnp_state_limits, rule:fmnp_extra, rule:fmnp_ca_30, rule:fmnp_season, rule:fmnp_federal_range, rule:wic_card_markets, rule:wic_card_qr, rule:wic_card_balance, rule:fmnp_appeal, rule:mm_who, rule:mm_dollar, rule:mm_cap_15, rule:mm_booth, rule:mm_farm_stand, rule:mm_spend, rule:mm_sites, rule:renewal, rule:reporting, rule:wic_phone.
