## Body

The day before my grandfather died, the last thing he said to a family member, was to me, he told me to  “take care of everyone”.

After he died I came here, to this vineyard, to oversee my grandmother. On the day of his funeral a week later it was the first time I left her side, she decided she couldn’t come. When I came back that evening, I found her unresponsive, she was trying to overdose. In the weeks that followed, my aunt & uncle lobbied to keep her in Marin, and I went along with it, to keep the peace in my family.

When I came to their home one morning, and found many of our Iranian estate papers laid about around the table, with my grandmother in a reduced state, and the manipulation of her that was trying to be done, I decided not to go back to their home again, and after some weeks my grandmother came back here. She died in November of 18. I didn’t spend much time with her in the 7 years between my grandfathers death and hers, because of the shame and guilt I felt, having stopped her from taking her own life, and watching her suffer, in a wheelchair, I felt as if the blame was with me, for her misfortunes, and that I had failed my family.

When my mother fell ill, all that she wanted to do was bring solvency to the house. She wanted to sell all of her jewelry, to free up enough capital to keep this place afloat while it remained in the clutch of the deal Jessup & Llamas had imposed on it. Her jewelry was stolen(ironically), by those close to her, and the thieves will pay heavily for that.

Despite my pleading, helplessly, with her friends, to put her in a better nursing home, she was left in a shit hole, to spite me. My mother fell 5 times from the bed, they put her in, on the first night she spent in some 3rd rate dump, and when she called me, screaming for help, I had to call the police to do a welfare check as patients screaming for help didn’t warrant attention at this place. It was only in the end that I was able to help my mother, and it was in those days, only a few weeks after she had been crying over the comical amount she made from the grapes that year, that it all came to be. For months she had a cough, I remember hearing it, she blamed it on the air quality, she was in such a poor financial state that she didn’t feel at liberty to get the medical treatment she should have.
