System notes
Physical systems fall toward one of three attractors: frozen order, heat death, or the critical seam; there is no fourth option.
The critical seam is a quantifiable zone between frozen order and turbulent noise, exhibiting power-law statistics, long-range correlations, and sensitivity to initial conditions, with maximum information capacity and computation.
Seven bounding theorems (No-Free-Lunch, Godel's Incompleteness, computational irreducibility, anthropic deflation, independence problem, progress non-guarantee, and narrow-zone) prevent the seam from being a panacea.
The eight structural patterns of the grain (branching, spirals, waves, symmetry, flow networks, bounded chaos, memory, scale invariance) all converge at the seam and are inert without it.
Machine intelligence follows the same structural identity as the critical seam, not merely by analogy, with gradient descent as dissipative structure, temperature as critical seam hyperparameter, and scaling laws as power laws.
