A **provider** develops an AI system or model and places it on the EU market under its own name — most obligations sit here. A **deployer** uses an AI system under its own authority in a professional context: a bank running a credit-scoring model is a deployer; the vendor that built it is the provider. Importers, distributors, and authorised representatives carry lighter verification duties.
