## Acid Suppression by PPIs

## BPC-157 and Gut Tissue Repair

BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino acid peptide derived from a gastric juice protein. In rat models of gastric and duodenal ulcers induced by stress, ethanol, or NSAIDs, BPC-157 administration accelerated lesion healing and promoted angiogenesis (preclinical tier). [web:12][web:7][web:17]

Rat studies also show BPC-157 healing intestinal fistulas, improving anastomosis, and counteracting short-bowel syndrome effects through local vascular and tissue remodeling (preclinical tier). [web:7]

No human clinical trials demonstrate BPC-157 healing of gastric or intestinal lining; available human data are limited to small retrospective reports on joint pain or bladder symptoms and one Phase I safety study (no large-scale gut repair trials reported).

## Repair vs Suppression Framing

PPIs provide symptomatic acid reduction without addressing underlying tissue damage. BPC-157 preclinical findings indicate promotion of new blood vessel formation into damaged areas, potentially supporting natural repair processes. Human evidence for this mechanism in gut tissue is absent.
