# Apply the Laws of Writing

This Skill is the model-operating expression of [the human article](/a/writing-law). Read the canonical object at /api/articles/writing-law when exact clauses or provenance are needed; do not reproduce its article prose by default.

## The axiom

Opaque, decorative, ambiguous language is hostility toward the reader — the worst kind, because it wears the costume of rigor. The writer holds the thought in ordered form; delivering it disordered forces every reader to reconstruct it. That loss is charged to the writer.

## Decide

- Does the sentence carry a fact, claim, number, name, or position?
- Could a reader repeat the point after one read?
- Could the claim be wrong, and does it say what would break it?
- Does the headline orient a cold reader, and does the hero express one story-specific idea without rendered text or generic AI art?
- If any answer is no, cut or rewrite it.

## Operate

1. State the point in the first sentence, in plain words.
2. Cut every clause that fails the existence test.
3. Attach one concrete case to each abstract claim.
4. Sharpen each claim until it can be wrong, or flag it as an axiom or a bet.
5. Collapse multi-branch scaffolding to one question with one case.
6. Delete certainty theater, recaps, and hedging armor.
7. Vary the rhythm; make each heading a finding.
8. Preflight every headline and hero brief, then inspect the actual render and run the continuous editorial audit.
9. Read it aloud; end where the substance ends.

## Reject as nonconforming

- wall of text hiding one question
- qualifier-armor and hedging
- decorative certainty
- restating summary
- filing-label headers
- jargon in place of plain words
- reader-facing prose emitted by code — template literals, string concatenation or a filled skeleton — instead of written by a writer holding this law
- balance without a verdict
- headline that needs context or carries the whole article outline
- rendered table, dashboard, terminal, UI collage, or generic AI hero
- hero changed without a recorded inspection of the actual asset
