The school year is well underway. As we enter October, we traditionally see a few seasonal trends, including a natural shift in student energy that can lead to rough play, as well as an increase in absences due to illnesses or early holiday trips. We want to share a few updates to help us navigate this season together. The Importance of Positive Attendance Consistent attendance is the most important factor in your child's academic success. When students frequently miss school, it impacts the whole classroom by forcing teachers to pause instruction to catch students up. Additionally, school funding is tied directly to our Average Daily Attendance (ADA). Every time a student is absent for an unexcused reason (unexcused trips, skipped classes, etc.), it directly reduces the funding available for student curriculum, field trips, and extracurricular offerings. Please partner with us to keep our attendance high. We ask that you drop your student off on time, provide medical notes for daytime appointments, and avoid scheduling family trips on instructional days. We have linked our ( Instructional Calendar here ) so you can plan around Thanksgiving and Winter Break. If an extended absence is entirely unavoidable, please call Ms. Arly Juarez at 415-485-3150 in advance to request an Independent Study Contract. Average Daily Attendance Statistics (Venetia Valley) 2025 (Aug 20 - Sept 25): ELM: 96.46% | MS: 97.19% 2026 (Aug 19 - Sept 24): ELM: 97.49% (+ 1.03%) | MS: 96.46% (- 0.73%) Safe Play at Recess We are asking all parents, especially those whose children play soccer at recess, to have a conversation at home about safe play. We have seen an increase in minor injuries from slide-tackling and body-checking, which are strictly prohibited on campus. We want to keep the soccer games going for everyone, but student safety must come first. Please help us reinforce these rules at home so we don't have to pause soccer activities to prevent further injuries. Morning Opening Time and Supervision As a reminder, our campus opens for students at 8:00 AM every day. At this time, students may enter the MPR to have breakfast in a supervised setting. At 8:30 AM, our front gates open for access to the playground and blacktop. Because we do not have staff available to supervise students prior to 8:00 AM, please ensure you are not dropping your children off early so they are never left unsupervised.
