A fantastic and free museum that shows what the area was like on Hamilton Air Force Base well before the homes were built. There's a really good short video that provides the whole picture from grassy field to an Airbase.

The Hamilton AFB museum was outstanding. Very historical base back in the haydays of. WWII through Vietnam, if you like local history watch the thirty minute video about the base. If you know AFI 36-2903, you will go crazy when you see the uniforms on display (I am going to go back and adjust the displays on my next trip to the Bay Area). Overall, this is a great way to learn about the history of the area.

Hamilton Field was an important local air force base during WWII and it would continue to run until 1974. This unassuming museum is one of the best in the region, despite frequently being overlooked. It’s free to visit and has a wonderful research library featuring a collection of documents from the war. Medals and equipment line the exhibits and, if you’re big a kid, the cockpit simulator here is lots of fun. The best thing about this museum is many veterans choose to work here, and they are often happy to share their knowledge and experience of 20th-century conflicts.

The museum features a 30 minute video abiut the history of Hamilton Air Force Base, the historic buildings in the area, many of which still stand including the former fire station that houses the museum itself. Plus, many displays of model planes depicting the planes of the base's era, actual uniforms and radios used as well as a flight-trainer that simulates a fighter or bomber. Free entry and merchandise is available for purchase.
