OBSERVER / FINE-TUNING
OBSERVER / FINE-TUNING
System notes
The universe's fundamental constants occupy a razor-thin range that permits matter, stars, and life.
Six key constants (gravity, strong nuclear force, weak force, fine-structure constant, electron-proton mass ratio, cosmological constant) are each tuned to narrow life-permitting bands.
The anthropic principle is a selection effect, not an explanation of why the constants have their specific values.
The cosmological constant is tuned to approximately 10^-120 of its natural value, the most extreme fine-tuning known in physics.
A definitive falsification of the fine-tuning observation would require: (a) derivation of constants from first principles, (b) direct multiverse confirmation, or (c) demonstration of life robustness to parameter variation — none of which currently exist.
