SYMMETRY ↔ CONSERVATION
SYMMETRY ↔ CONSERVATION
System notes
Every continuous symmetry of the action produces a conserved quantity automatically, with no exceptions.
Energy conservation has never been violated in any closed system; momentum conservation holds to one part in 10^20; charge conservation holds to one part in 10^25.
The CPT theorem guarantees that even if C, P, and T are individually violated, their product CPT is always conserved; every particle has an antiparticle with opposite charge and identical mass.
General relativity breaks global energy conservation because time translation is not global in curved spacetime; energy conservation becomes local, approximate, or definitional.
CERN found no supersymmetric particles up to 2 TeV; the supersymmetry that would unify matter and force may not exist.
