Domain distance: Engineering/Physiology → Cell biology/Systems theory (medium)

Derivation independence: MODERATE-HIGH. Wiener (mathematics, MIT, 1948) developed cybernetics from control systems. Cannon (physiology, Harvard, 1926) discovered homeostasis empirically. Maturana & Varela (biology, Chile, 1972) developed autopoiesis from cell biology. The lineage: autopoiesis is partially an extension of cybernetics to living systems, but the biological instantiation was original.

Note: The convergence is in the pattern of organizational closure — a system making the conditions of its own persistence. The distinction: feedback is a mechanism; autopoiesis is a claim about what living systems ARE.
