First time here since the renovation! They did a great job. I remember feeling so gross sitting at a booth before. But now I could see this as a high school hang out place or quick stop for dinner before seeing a movie across the street. Nacho fries were surprisingly good (beating zero expectations).

Consider another place if you care about customer service. The inability to speak to a person when calling the number foreshadowed the quality of customer service-- the worst out of all the apartments in the area. The only option when calling the number is to leave a message. I visited the place and did not feel welcomed at all. The exterior isn't great, the layout of the rooms are poor, and the interior is mediocre (at best). The review gets 2 stars instead of 1 star because the person showing me the rooms was knowledgeable enough, answered questions, and didn't say anything offensive. However, it was clear that he was not going to tell me anything about the apartments unless I asked. I wouldn't be surprised if someone already signed on the rooms I visited, and the viewing was to humor my inquiry.

We passed by this place all the time and never noticed the entrance up the hill. We were able to make reservations online 1 hour in advance for a Friday dinner, which was great for a last-minute date night. We appreciated the flowers while driving up the slope and appreciated the setting sun. (It's not called Hilltop for no reason!) The service and ambiance was fabulous-- I just wish the food were the same. My partner got the pot roast. Presentation was done very well, served on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and garnished with baby carrots and deliciously fried parsnip ribbons. I ordered one of the specials-- a 12 oz NY strip with mashed potatoes and green beans-- to go along with a glass of merlot. I couldn't legitimately complain about the steak because it was the perfect shade of medium-rare pink, but it was strangely chewy for how it was cooked (even though the server wanted to make sure I liked it). It was chewiest medium-rare steak I've had, but maybe that's how some people like it. After seeing the bill, I wondered whether I should have requested something I would have enjoyed more. The service was so accommodating that I would have been surprised if that had been a problem. Total for the two entrees and a glass of wine was almost $100 after tax and tip. Glad we came but probably won't be back for more dinners. Maybe we'll come again just for drinks and dessert next time!

Finally came by when it was open! Business hours aren't posted, but what was good to know is that the shop closes early on weekends (which is why I never saw them open) and occasionally they'll close early on weekdays. Staff was friendly and donuts are yummy! Picked up a dozen donuts to take into the office and was not disappointed. The old fashioned and buttermilk donuts have a nice crunch on the outside. Original glazed donuts can't beat Krispy Kreme but are definitely better than Safeway donuts!
