This Marshalls in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato is one of my favorite stores, and I always enjoy visiting. The shopping center is clean and well-kept, which makes shopping easier. The store is usually well-stocked and organized, so I can easily find great deals. The shelves often have a lot of merchandise, all neatly arranged. Over the years, I have found many treasures here, including shoes, shirts, and jackets. I have also seen items on my shopping list at much lower prices, which is always a bonus. The staff members are friendly and helpful. When I have asked for assistance, they have made an effort to help me find what I need. This Marshalls is a popular place for bargain hunters in Novato and Marin County. It is a main store in the spacious, open-air mall, offering many brand-name and designer items at discounted prices, including clothing, shoes, home decor, and beauty products. It is a convenient stop for shopping, as the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center has over 55 retailers and restaurants. My partner enjoys going on bargain hunts while I hold our puppy and stroll through the store, making it fun for both of us!

On our way back to San Francisco, we discovered a fantastic spot: Sabor De Mexico in Novato. It was our first visit, and it certainly won’t be our last. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. We tried several of their popular dishes, and everything was delicious. The street tacos were especially memorable; I sampled both the carne asada and the lengua, which had perfectly balanced flavors. The homemade tortillas made a significant difference. We also shared an order of carne asada quesadillas, which were very flavorful. The restaurant offers both indoor and semi-outdoor seating and is clean and well-maintained. We ordered at the counter, and the food was brought to our table. The prices are reasonable, considering the quality of the dishes. It’s clear they use fresh, high-quality ingredients in everything, from the salsa to the expertly cooked meats. If you’re looking for a new spot for authentic Mexican cuisine, Sabor De Mexico is definitely worth a visit.

We were looking for comfortable and sporty clothing, so we decided to check out the Old Navy store in the Vintage Oak shopping mall. The merchandise is primarily geared toward a younger clientele, but there are many options available. The store is large and well-organized, and the fitting rooms are clean and well-maintained. The staff was helpful, and we managed to find a couple of basic items we liked. The sale racks are definitely worth exploring, as we found some great deals on athletic wear and basics. It was also nice to see that the store offered a good selection of sizes, not just the most common ones. Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable shopping trip.

We stopped by Pet Food Express on Diablo Avenue looking for a specific dog food for our finicky puppy, and while we couldn’t find it on the shelves after a few minutes of searching, the experience turned out to be a great one. A friendly gentleman who had warmly greeted us at the door immediately came over to help, checked the racks himself, and confirmed it was out of stock. Rather than just leaving it at that, he offered to call another nearby location to see if they had it available. He asked us to wait while he personally called to confirm inventory so we wouldn’t waste a trip, and once he verified they had it, he even asked them to hold a bag for us until we arrived. That level of follow-through and genuine care is rare. The store itself was clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate, but what really stood out was the customer service. It was thoughtful, proactive, and exactly the kind of experience that earns repeat customers.

We recently stopped by the Petco at the Vintage Oaks shopping center in Novato, and I was truly impressed by the staff. We were looking for a particular dog food for our little one, Poppy, who has a few health issues, including allergies. While they didn’t have the exact product we were after, the team was incredibly helpful and approachable. They took the time to talk with us about Poppy’s specific needs and shared valuable insights on what to consider in our search for the right food. It’s so refreshing to encounter a team that is not only informed but also genuinely compassionate. We left feeling much more assured and knowledgeable, and we will definitely come back. A big thank you to the amazing Petco team for all your support!

During one of our weekend drives to Novato, we wanted to try a new place to eat and decided on Aurora, which seemed like a good nearby option. As we made our way there, I began to doubt whether I had the correct address, as the area we were passing through appeared to be a business district with most of the offices closed and up for rent. I couldn't believe there would be a restaurant open for business there! However, I was mistaken. When we turned onto Commercial Blvd, I saw cars parked in front of the restaurant. They even had their own parking lot, so we parked there and walked inside. Once inside, we were immediately greeted by the hostess, a pleasant young lady with a big smile. We asked to be seated outside so our little furry companion could join us. When we were seated, someone brought our puppy a bowl of water and handed us the menus. We started with a caprese salad, which I accompanied with a glass of Pinot Grigio. The salad was fresh and delicious, and the olive oil was fantastic! For our main dishes, I ordered Linguine alla Pescatora, and my companion had Fettuccine alla Carbonara. Both dishes were exquisite. While we enjoyed our meal and the ambiance, the hostess and the rest of the staff checked on us regularly to ensure everything was satisfactory. After we finished our meal, the crew surprised my companion with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" and presented a Tiramisu with a candle on it. We had a wonderful time, appreciating the surroundings, enjoying delicious food, and experiencing the crew's excellent hospitality.

Marin Coffee Roasters is a unique local coffee stand with an interesting history. What looks like an old gas station is actually a former drive-up bank that was later converted into a coffee shop. Today it operates mainly as a drive-through, with staff walking out to take customers' orders. During my visit, I ordered a drip coffee with milk and found it to be strong, smooth, and pleasantly flavorful. They also offer pastries, although I didn't notice a larger food menu. The staff member who helped me was friendly and efficient, making the stop quick and enjoyable. If you're looking for a good cup of coffee in Novato and appreciate places with a little character, this is worth checking out.

Taqueria Mi Pueblo III was a nice stop for lunch after almost three years. I was in the mood for a drink, so I ordered a margarita, and we shared a guacamole dip to start. Both were enjoyable, though the guacamole was just a bit saltier than I would have preferred. Still, it hit the spot and was a good way to kick off the meal. For the main course, I went with the carne asada plate, while my significant other ordered a meat quesadilla. Both dishes were flavorful and satisfying, with solid portion sizes. It was a warm Sunday, so we chose to sit outside, which made for a relaxed and comfortable dining experience. The service really stood out. The ladies who took our order and served us were friendly and attentive, and a young man helping with the tables kept everything moving smoothly. Overall, it was a pleasant, easygoing meal with good food and welcoming service, definitely a place we’d return to.

After stopping at another nearby Pet Food Express and finding out the specific dog food we needed was sold out, the staff there kindly called this Nave Drive location to confirm it was in stock and asked them to hold a bag for us. We arrived about 30 minutes later, and sure enough, it was waiting at the counter with our name on it. That kind of coordination saved us time and made the extra drive completely worthwhile. While we were there, we picked up a couple of additional items, and the associate helping us was extremely friendly and attentive. She walked us to the right sections, answered our questions, and made sure everything we selected was exactly what we wanted. We were in and out in less than twenty minutes, fully stocked and ready to keep our little furry friend happy. The store itself is clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate, with clearly labeled aisles and a good selection of food, treats, and essentials. Parking in the shopping center is convenient, which makes quick stops easy. Overall, this location stands out for its efficiency and genuinely helpful customer service.

A Novato Brewery Worth the Search During a weekend drive north of San Francisco, we found ourselves in Novato and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Before grabbing our late lunch, we wanted to try a local brewery, and Adobe Creek Brewing caught my attention. Adobe Creek Brewing is a newer craft brewery started by Jonathan MacDonald in March 2017. Jonathan was a homebrewer before turning professional. Adobe Creek is known for its tasty, hop-forward beers. At first, they only made small batches for local bars and restaurants. But in 2019, they opened a taproom for the public. The taproom is in a parking lot in Novato's business district. It was a bit tricky to find, but it was worth the effort. The place has a simple and open feel. I asked for a light beer, and the friendly staff member gave me a few options. I chose a clear IPA, though I can't remember the name. It was smooth and flavorful, perfect for a nice day. Since we were hungry, we didn't try more beers, but our samples were so good that I knew I would go back and explore more of their offerings. Overall, Adobe Creek Brewing is a great place to visit if you're in Novato.

Fresh Sushi & Friendly Service in Novato We visited Novato and were in the mood for sushi, so we found Taki Japanese Restaurant online and decided to try it. Taki is in the Pacheco Plaza Shopping Center, tucked away in a corner with a few other eateries and a coffee shop. Since we had our puppy with us, we chose to sit outside, with plenty of shaded tables. Our server, a very friendly lady, seated us and gave us enough time to look over the menu. To start, we ordered prawn and vegetable tempura along with miso soup. Both were delicious. We shared a combination dinner with sesame chicken and sushi for our main course. The dinner also included miso soup, tsukemono (Japanese pickles), cabbage salad, and rice. Everything was quite enjoyable, although the sesame chicken had more breading than chicken. Overall, the ingredients were fresh, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Even though we were seated far from the restaurant door, we received much attention. If you’re in Novato and looking for a good sushi place, Taki is worth a visit.

Over a week ago, we were driving south to San Francisco through Novato when we decided to stop for dinner, and Mexican food won the majority vote! We chose a new place called El Rey. We arrived around 7:30 PM, and the restaurant wasn't busy since it was a Sunday evening. Looking at the menu, I was immediately drawn to the ceviche. We decided to start with guacamole and chips, share the ceviche, and order a Quesadilla con Carne Asada. The guacamole was fresh and well-made, the ceviche was exceptionally delicious, and the quesadilla was very well-prepared and tasty. Our server was friendly and helpful with our questions, and we even shared a few good laughs. The service was excellent. El Rey has been a local spot in Novato for many years. It is family-owned and known for serving traditional Mexican dishes in a welcoming setting. The restaurant has built a strong reputation in the community as a reliable place for a hearty meal, with many locals returning for decades. The restaurant is located in a standalone building within a shopping center and offers a large seating area. They also have an outdoor seating area, which I imagine would be especially nice on a warm evening. As a first-time visitor, I was very impressed. The food, service, and relaxed atmosphere made for an enjoyable stop on our drive. We would definitely return the next time we're in Novato.

On a weekend drive through Novato, we stopped for lunch and chose Mamita. We have visited Novato many times, so I was surprised I hadn’t heard of Mamita before. I found out it opened just three or four years ago. The owners, Shah Bahreyni, Peter Paul, and chef Bernardo Robles, started Mamita to highlight the flavors of Oaxaca and Puebla. They focus on fresh, local ingredients, grill prime meats over oak wood, import spices from Oaxaca, and make their own corn masa. The restaurant also has a bar with a variety of tequila and mezcal. Its casual atmosphere has made it popular in Novato. Mamita has many positive reviews for its tasty dishes, and we decided to try the Chicken Enchiladas. First, we shared an Elote, which is wood-grilled sweet corn topped with Queso Fresco, lime, and Chipotle Aioli. We also had Queso Fundido con Chorizo, a traditional dish with melted cheese and chorizo sausage. Both appetizers were excellent. When the Chicken Enchiladas arrived, they were flavorful, but I had already filled up on the appetizers, so I could only eat one of the three on the plate, and my partner could only manage one as well. The service was excellent, and we left wanting to come back again. return.

A Glimpse into Guatemalan Cuisine We were in Novato looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon Cocina Antigua online. This restaurant specializes in Guatemalan cuisine, and we were eager to try it. Located in the Nave Shopping Center Annex, the restaurant was filled with a young crowd when we arrived. The dining area, though small, was clean and well-organized. A friendly hostess greeted and seated us. She patiently explained the dishes, highlighted the day's specials, and even offered to prepare a couple of Guatemalan dishes we were interested in, even though they weren't on the menu. We opted for a selection of small plates to sample various dishes. The dishes arrived, a couple with a vibrant display of colors and textures. While the presentation was inviting, the overall flavor profile lacked the punch I expected in Guatemalan food. It leaned more towards bland, leaving me wanting more complexity or heat. However, the Pork Pupusas and Plantanos stood out for their flavor and texture.

I was genuinely impressed with the size of this Safeway and how well-organized and fully stocked it was. We stopped here for the first time on our way back to San Francisco to pick up a few items, and it turned out to be a very easy, stress-free shopping experience. The aisles were wide and clearly labeled, the produce section looked fresh and abundant, and everything felt clean and thoughtfully laid out. I was able to find almost everything quickly, which is not always the case in a new store. For the one item I couldn’t locate, I asked a staff member for help, and she immediately stopped what she was doing, walked me directly to it, and was friendly and genuinely helpful the entire time. That kind of customer service makes a difference. The store also has ample parking and is easy to access right off Diablo Avenue, making it a convenient stop if you’re passing through Novato or heading back toward the city. Definitely a location I’d return to.

First Time Bite at La Chulada's Cantina - Pleasant Surprise! I am not sure how long La Chulada has been in downtown Novato. I'd passed by the location many times, and grabbed breakfast next door, but never walked in. On his visit, however, that finally changed! La Chulada itself offers a diverse marketplace, but I had my sights set on the little cantina tucked away beside it. Craving a quick bite before heading back to San Francisco, I ordered a couple of tacos: carnitas and "steak," as the friendly counter lady recommended. At just $3 each, I didn't expect much, but to my delight, these were pleasantly surprising! Let me rewind a bit. This warm and welcoming lady (you know, the one I mentioned earlier) greeted me as I approached the counter. Uncertain about the second taco filling, I mentioned my carnitas choice and asked for advice. "Steak!" she said confidently. Since I only had my phone, she kindly directed me to the market side with my taco slip for Apple Pay processing. Back at the cantina, I settled into one of their clean, small tables. The lady brought chips, salsa, and a refreshing glass of water, as I had requested. Now, here's where the deliciousness kicked in... But wait! As I sat down, my eyes caught a small board showcasing the day's specials. Guess what? Birria! Over the past few years, I've become quite the Birria fan, and seeing that missed opportunity stung a little. Oh well, next time, for sure! Overall, La Chulada's cantina offered a fantastic, unexpected gem at a more-than-fair price. While I missed the Birria this time, the friendly service, clean atmosphere, and delicious tacos left me wanting more. I'll definitely be back to explore their marketplace and, of course, try that elusive Birria!

We stopped at the Golden Gate Bistro in Novato for a quick drink and a bite to eat. We weren’t planning to go there; we just happened to be nearby and decided to give it a try. To our surprise, there was live music when we arrived. At first, we weren’t sure about the noise, but once we sat outside, we found it more enjoyable than overwhelming. The music added a nice, lively atmosphere. The service was excellent. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, and everything moved at a nice pace. We ordered tacos and a roasted beet salad with grilled salmon. Both dishes were fresh and well-prepared. The tacos were tasty and satisfying, and the salad had a good mix of earthy and bright flavors. The salmon added a nice richness. I initially didn’t plan to have a drink, but the fun atmosphere got to me. We ended up sharing two Modelo Lagers. The combination of good food, good music, and a relaxed outdoor vibe made it hard to resist. Overall, our first visit was a pleasant surprise. Golden Gate Bistro feels like a casual place to grab a meal, enjoy a drink, or just relax with live entertainment. If you haven’t tried it, it’s worth a visit—you might be pleasantly surprised too.

Nordstrom Rack is one of the few stores I actually enjoy browsing even when I don't have anything specific to buy. We've visited the Novato location many times, and I've purchased quite a few items here. The store is generally organized, carries a good selection of recognizable brands, and the staff has always been helpful whenever I've needed assistance. Some items can be a little more expensive than what you might find at other comparable discount stores, but I appreciate the convenience of having a broad selection in one place rather than driving from store to store trying to save a few dollars. The one drawback I've noticed is that the racks can become pretty messy during busy shopping periods, particularly around the holidays. If you prefer a more organized and relaxed shopping experience, I'd recommend visiting before the holiday crowds arrive. Overall, this has been a reliable Nordstrom Rack location for us over many visits.

In Crepuscule, Roman Payne writes: “People wonder why so many writers come to live in Paris… Just like Italy, Spain, or Iran are the best places to pick saffron.” Well, I can’t comment on Paris or the search for novel ideas, but I can confidently say this: you don’t need to travel to Italy, Spain, or Iran to find saffron. All you need to do is drive to Novato. Saffron Grill & Market is a small, unassuming spot that serves a dual purpose, as both a Middle Eastern grocery store and a casual grill, and it does both surprisingly well. If you enjoy exploring spices, dried goods, and specialty ingredients, the shelves alone are worth the stop. I certainly got a kick out of browsing them. And if you’re hungry, just walk to the back of the store, look up at the menu, and order whatever catches your eye. The food is solid, comforting Persian cuisine, prepared simply and priced very reasonably. It’s the kind of place where you don’t overthink the order, you just pick something and enjoy it. The owner-operator is friendly and genuinely happy to answer questions, whether you’re curious about the food, the spices, or what pairs well together. It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t try to be. But if you’re looking for authentic flavors, good value, and a warm, local feel, Saffron Grill & Market delivers, all without leaving Marin County.

While shopping for a trip, my partner and I visited the Gap Factory Store in Novato. This store is in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center. It sells affordable, casual clothes for men, women, and kids. You can find everyday items like comfy T-shirts, classic Gap hoodies, timeless jeans, activewear, and seasonal items. The store makes shopping easy with in-store browsing and buy-online-pick-up-in-store options. You can also return items at any Gap Factory location. I quickly found some basic items at good prices. My partner had a longer list of things to try on, but also found a few items. Overall, it was a successful shopping trip! The exact opening date of this location is unclear, but the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center has been part of Novato since at least the early 2010s and is well-known in the area. In summary, this Gap Factory store offers a reliable place for stylish, value-focused clothing for all ages, all in one spot.oof.

During our weekend drives through Marin County, we often pass by the Novato Costco and like to stop in to pick up a few essentials for the week. Compared to our local San Francisco location, this one feels more manageable, still busy at times, but generally less crowded and easier to navigate. The store is well-stocked, the aisles are wide and organized, and it’s usually easy to find what we need without too much searching. They carry the usual Costco mix of groceries, household items, and bulk essentials, and I’ve found the produce and packaged goods sections to be consistently fresh and well-maintained. Parking is also a bit less stressful than in the city, which makes quick stops more practical. Like most Costco locations, weekends can get busy, but if you time it right, it’s a smooth in-and-out experience. The associates here are typically friendly and helpful, and checkout lines tend to move efficiently. Overall, it’s a reliable stop with good prices and a more relaxed shopping experience than some of the busier Bay Area warehouses, which is why it has become one of our regular go-to spots.

This Banana Republic Factory Store is one of the better factory outlets I’ve visited. I went in looking for a couple of basics—good-quality white T-shirts and a white button-down, and ended up finding those, plus a sports jacket I hadn’t planned to buy. That’s usually a good sign when a store has both selection and value. The layout is straightforward and easy to navigate. As you walk in, the women’s section is on the right, and the men’s on the left, and the store is a good size without feeling overwhelming. Everything was neatly organized, and one thing that stood out was how clean and well-kept the fitting rooms were, something you don’t always see. The staff was helpful without being pushy, and pricing was very reasonable, with many items discounted in the 20–50% range. Overall, it’s a solid stop if you’re at Vintage Oaks and looking for quality basics or a few good deals without having to dig too hard.
