Cassandra Broome · Matsuyama Restaurant

text
Originally wanted to give three stars but, the more I reflect on my experience here, the weirder it seemed. Service: we were not greeted when we entered, which confused my partner and left him uncertain of where to go to ask for a seat. We also said goodbye as we left and did not get a goodbye or even a glance in return. I know it's NOT hard to look up and just say bye. The server just seemed like he did not want to be there. I don't blame him if he was tired though. Thankfully our food came quick. This was a huge benefit as the experience went on and I realized I just wanted it to be over. Atmosphere: it took me a while to figure out what was wrong, but there wasn't any music. The quiet isn't a bad thing on its own. But I could hear literally every conversation happening at other tables, some of which were personal and I did not want to hear. The customers deserve a little cover to have conversations with their partners/families. Food: all ingredients were VERY cheap and every dish was underseasoned. The edamame was yellow and soft like it had been frozen multiple times, no salt. The salmon skin was so heavily battered that it tasted like white bread and nothing like salmon skin at all; it was also somehow NOT crispy, despite being fried. The ramen noodles were soft, maybe overcooked, cheap or both? Maybe soggy is a better word; they had not texture. The cabbage reminded me of boiled lettuce. The broth was weak like water with a vague semblance of chicken, not salt. Even the pork ramen was chicken flavor. I has to put so much wasabi in the broth to get any kind of flavor. The tuna in the sushi was grey and the rice was hard and did not look or taste like sushi rice. It was the triple spicy sushi, but was not spicy and I could not figure out what the third spicy ingredient was supposed to be?? I... I've had better gas station sushi. I understand that is a shame on me too for ever having eaten gas station sushi. This experience was.. bad. I won't go back. If I had been alone and not with my partner, I would have told the server to cancel my order and that I have to leave.
