Hello {first name},
This is Steve, the owner and founder of On Q Wines.
In 2010, I had a dream to make great Napa wines and have been following this dream now for 10 years. I would like to tell you a little more about the inside of Napa winemaking.
Contrary to popular belief, I did not grow up in a wine family in Napa, but rather am the son of a hard working butcher who worked 6 days a week for most of his life. From my father, I learned the importance of good work ethic.
In my 30's, I gained an appreciation for wine and being in Napa, there were many great wines to be inspired by. Having a 1/2 acre lot in the hills of western Napa, I got the idea to plant a vineyard on the slope behind the house. I took numerous night classes at Napa college to learn how to plant a vineyard and make wine. I planted the first vineyard in 2003 with Sirah and Petite Sirah vines. For those of you who like to plant and grow, you can understand the feeling of accomplishment and joy you receive when your plants thrive and bear fruit. In winemaking, there is an additional joy you receive when you are able to make a product that people enjoy. I made the wine in the garage for 7 years and it was good. I gave wine away to my friends and family for years and they loved it. Because of that, I started On Q Wines in 2010.
However, I underestimated the challenges ahead. It's one thing to make good wine. It's another thing to market and sell it. We have had high scores on our wines for many years from Robert Parker of WIne Advocate. In my naivete, I thought people would just buy our wine because it is good. But the reality is, making high quality wine is expensive, especially when your production is only a few hundred cases a year. Recently, I almost gave up on the dream as you can only lose money for so long. Then I met Charlie, whose mother owned the vineyard our Cadence and Improvisation has come off for all of these years. She sadly passed away last November. I found out that Charlie's specialty is marketing, so he has been helping us market our wines for the last two months. He has run marketing campaigns quite different to what has been done previously. But the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We are having a hard time keeping up with the orders. I apologize if your order has taken longer to receive than it should. We are making several big logistical changes to keep up with the order volume and delivery time will improve in the near future.
I am so thankful for the many friends we have around the country who enjoy our wines and are willing to spend their hard-earned money on our products. This is truly the sincerest form of flattery. We are the small guy competing against hundreds of other wineries in Napa, but the one thing you can count on is that we never cut corners and you can be proud to serve out wines on your table. Our goal has always been to provide our customers with art in the bottle and art on the table. The dream lives on.
But I would like to hear from you. What is it that you like about On Q Wines and what can we do to make your experience better?
This is Steve, the owner and founder of On Q Wines.
