Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) (a federal internet discount that ended on 1 June 2024): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next

The Affordable Connectivity Program was a federal internet discount that ended on 1 June 2024 when Congress gave it no more money. No benefit is paid and no application is taken. Federal Lifeline, which can also discount broadband, is still active.

What the Affordable Connectivity Program is, in one paragraph

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was the FCC's internet discount for low-income households, run by USAC. It ended on 1 June 2024 because Congress gave it no more money (rule:program_ended). While it ran it took up to $30 a month off broadband, up to $75 on qualifying Tribal lands, and gave a one-time discount of up to $100 on a laptop, desktop or tablet (rule:former_monthly_benefit, rule:former_device_discount). No successor is named; USAC describes Lifeline as the FCC program that remains active (rule:successor).

Ended 1 June 2024
ACP ended for lack of funding from Congress (USAC, rule:program_ended)

Who may qualify

Nobody, now. ACP takes no applications and pays no benefit (rule:program_ended).

For a household that had ACP, the active federal program is Lifeline: up to $9.25 a month, or $34.25 on Tribal lands, which can go to phone service or to high-speed broadband (rule:lifeline_broadband).

How to apply, and what happens after

There is nothing to apply for. A former ACP household that wants a discount now applies for Lifeline through a participating phone or internet company; see Lifeline (federal) + California LifeLine (phone discount) (discounted home and cell phone service): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next. No appeal can restore ACP (rule:no_appeal).
