California College Promise Grant (community college enrollment fee waiver, formerly the BOG waiver) and the California College Promise (AB 19): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next

The California College Promise Grant waives the $46-per-unit enrollment fee at a California community college for students on cash aid, students under 150 percent of the poverty line, or students with at least $1,104 in unmet need from the FAFSA or Dream Act application. Apply at the college's financial aid office or with the FAFSA or CADAA; most waivers are processed within a week.

What the California College Promise Grant is, in one paragraph

The California College Promise Grant (CCPG), once called the BOG fee waiver, waives the enrollment fee at California's community colleges, which is $46 per unit. A student qualifies in one of three ways: receiving cash aid (Part A), having household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines (Part B), or showing at least $1,104 of unmet need on the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (Part C). It covers only the enrollment fee, not books or living costs. Separately, the California College Promise (AB 19) lets colleges cover fees for up to two years for full-time students who do not receive a CCPG.

Part C, need. At least $1,104 of unmet need from the FAFSA or CADAA, or $552 at the college's discretion for 12 units a year (rule:part_c).

How to apply, and what happens after

File the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (covers Part C and opens other aid), or the college's CCPG application, which asks for prior-year tax income. Each college posts how to submit it.
