Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (a $50 farmers’ market card each season for Californians 60 and older): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program gives Californians 60 and older with household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level one $50 card per season for fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey at authorized farmers’ markets. You sign up in person with your county Area Agency on Aging, first come, first served. The 2026 card works from 15 June through 30 November 2026.

What Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is, in one paragraph

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is a federal program that California runs through the Department of Food and Agriculture. An eligible senior gets a Farmers’ Market Card to buy fresh, unprocessed, locally grown fruits, vegetables, cut herbs and honey from authorized farmers. Sign-up is in person through the county Area Agency on Aging each season, and the cards are given first come, first served. Not every farmer at a market is authorized; authorized stalls show a “WIC and Senior Benefits Welcome” sign.

$50
one SFMNP Farmers’ Market Card per eligible senior per year, usable 15 June to 30 November 2026 (CDFA, rule:benefit_50)

Who may qualify

Three things decide it: age, residence and household income.

Age and residence: a California resident 60 or older (rule:age_60_ca).

Income: household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level (rule:income_185). The applicant self-certifies it (rule:self_certify).

Household sizeYearlyMonthly
1$29,526$2,461
2$40,034$3,337
3$50,542$4,212
each additional+$10,508+$876

That is CDFA’s 2026 table, effective 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 (rule:income_185_table).

Once a season: one benefit per person per season (rule:once_per_season), and only while the county’s cards last (rule:first_come).

How to apply, and what happens after

Apply in person through the Area Agency on Aging for your county (rule:apply_in_person, rule:apply_aaa); CDFA publishes the 2026 AAA contact list. You sign a self-certification of age and income (rule:self_certify).
