Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) + CA Market Match (farmers’ market produce money for WIC families and CalFresh shoppers in California): who qualifies, what you get, how to apply, and what happens next

WIC families in California can get $30 of farmers’ market checks a season and can use the California WIC Card at authorized farmers’ markets. CalFresh shoppers get Market Match: CalFresh dollars spent at a participating market are matched dollar for dollar on fruits and vegetables, usually up to $15. FMNP checks come from the WIC office; Market Match is given at the market’s information booth.

What WIC FMNP and Market Match is, in one paragraph

Two programs pay for produce at California farmers’ markets. The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is a federal program for WIC participants: the WIC office gives a booklet of checks for authorized farmers, on top of regular WIC benefits, and from the 2025 season the California WIC Card itself works at authorized markets through a QR code. Market Match is California’s incentive for CalFresh shoppers, run by the Ecology Center with community partners: CalFresh dollars spent at a participating market are matched for fruits and vegetables. Market Match needs no application.

$30 a season; up to $15 matched
WIC FMNP: three $10 checks per household, 1 May to 30 November (CDPH, rule:fmnp_ca_30). Market Match: most markets match CalFresh up to $15 (Ecology Center, rule:mm_cap_15)

Who may qualify

WIC FMNP: a person currently on WIC or on the WIC waiting list, except infants 4 months old or younger (rule:fmnp_who). The state may limit it to certain areas or priority groups (rule:fmnp_state_limits).

Market Match: anyone paying with CalFresh at a participating farmers’ market or farm-direct site (rule:mm_who).
